‘Vaidyaratnam’ was the title bestowed upon Ashtavaidyan Sri E.T. Narayanan Mooss by the British Government in 1924, for his valuable contribution in the field of Ayurveda. Vaidyaratnam Foundation Hospital was envisaged by our founder Ashtavaidyan E.T. Neelakandhan Mooss (Padmashree recipient in 1992) to make authentic traditional Ayurveda treatment accessible even to the common man, irrespective of cast, gender, age or socio-economic status. Initially called ‘Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Research Centre and Charitable Hospital’, the ‘Vaidyaratnam Foundation Hospital’ is a hallowed name in the field of medical consultation, training and research.
In recognition of the institution’s contribution to the advancement of Ayurveda, the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India upgraded it as a ‘Centre of Excellence in Ayurvedic Management of Chronic Joint Disorders’ in 2010.
This project comprising a 40 bedded specialty hospital with all the facilities like digital X-ray units, ECG, clinical laboratory and physiotherapy wing was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, Smt. Santhosh Chowdhary on 14th December 2013.
Using cutting-edge diagnostic tools, research was carried out on five identified disorders namelys, Rheumatiod Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Gouty Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis and Systemic Lupus Erythamatosus (SLE). Subsequently, in 2017, the Ministry of AYUSH granted the institution one more research programme under EMR scheme, for mitigating the impact of Osteo-arthritis of knees.
